Note : After an exciting two years of preparation, planning, research, renovation- and construction work, the Carmelite Church finally opened its doors! This architectural jewel with Neo-Byzantine and Neo-Roman features dating back from the 1600, can be rented for events, performances, exhibitions and ceremonies. The lighting design concept delivered was praised for succeeding to preserve and to integrate the genuine architectural characteristics of the original church whilst adding a touch of modernity. Its name ‘Egliseum’ is born out of the original combination of ‘Eglise’ (church) and ‘Museum’.
The site is divided over a ground-and first floor and contains: a central event hall, several exhibition rooms, office & meeting room, VIP apartment, catering rooms and luxurious lounge bars.
The concept for the lighting design was based on the following key requirements:
- flexible lighting scheme able to accommodate a wide range of events, uses and moods;
- seamless integration of the lighting into the historical building;
- focus on areas of architectural interest such as the original pillars, domes and stained glass windows.
