Church Saint Pieters (Turnhout) 2023-2025 The existing lighting was upgraded using LED fixtures that are as invisible and unobtrusive as possible, without adding any new drill points. Energy consumption was reduced by half while the lux levels were doubled, all within the client’s budget. We thank the client and the electrical contractor for the appreciated collaboration. The St. Peter’s Church is a Roman Catholic place of worship in the city Turnhout (Kempen). It has many remarkable stained-glass windows, created by renowned glaziers, which creates impressive bright spaces. Thanks to this daylight the church feels welcoming and inspiring, ideal for reflection as well as festive occasions. Some of the exceptional works in this church include the organ from 1662, the exceptionally large Baroque altar from 1740 by Walter Pompe, and the Baroque pulpit depicting the Miraculous Catch of Fish from 1862 by Walter Peeters-Divoort. The first church probably dates back to the early period of the “Vrijheid Turnhout” (12th century), of which the lower part of the western tower has been preserved. In 1398, Duchess Maria of Guelders founded a chapter with 12 canons, and in the 15th century the tower was raised. In 1740, the Antwerp architect Jan Pieter van Baurscheidt the Younger was commissioned, among other things, to enlarge the nave, build the aisles, and raise the vault in the transept.
